2023年6月24日，为了助力武术运动进入奥运会舞台，由美国武术家协会主办的纽约国际武术锦标赛在纽约隆重举行。这场精彩的赛事吸引了来自世界各地的顶级武术选手，他们在纽约的舞台上展示了精湛的技艺和卓越的表演。
自1994年国际武联被国际单项体育联合会接纳为会员以来，全球武术界不断推动武术运动在世界范围内的普及和发展。2001年，国际武联首次提出申请武术成为奥运会比赛项目。此后，国际武联多次向国际奥委会提交入奥申请，曾于2008年成功举办“北京2008武术比赛”，但至今仍未成功入选奥运会正式比赛项目。
纽约国际武术锦标赛应运而生，大赛特别邀请了2008北京奥运武术冠军赵庆建担任大赛形象大使，旨在提高人们对武术运动的认识和关注，并为武术争取进入夏季奥运会创造更多机会。这场比赛是一个展示武术多样性和艺术魅力的平台，各种传统和现代的武术流派在此相互交流，激发了观众们的兴趣。
来自中国、美国和其他国家及地区的选手们在纽约的竞技场内展开激烈角逐。他们以优雅的拳脚动作、流畅的身法和精确的技巧，将观众带入一个令人叹为观止的世界，每一场比赛都呈现出运动员们的才华与毅力。

主办方美国武术家协会张良会长对记者说：“本届比赛的成功举办，将为武术入奥提供更多的支持和动力。我希望未来有更多的人能够加入到武术运动中来，共同推动武术事业的发展。”
大赛总裁判长，中国及世界武术冠军郭存杰说：“今年的比赛不但有众多的华裔学生，同时也吸引了其他各族裔的选手加入到这个比赛中来。虽然受到了几年疫情的影响，但是比赛的水平还是可圈可点。 本次比赛涵盖初中高三个竞技级别，不少初次参加的小运动员也展示出了武术的精气神！比赛中也涌现了不少国家级的高水平运动员，为武术进奥运打下了坚实的基础！”

大赛仲裁委员会主任，中国高级武术教练，原陕西省武术套路队总教练白文祥对记者说：“让国粹武术进入奥运比赛项目，是每一位中华儿女的信念和理想，更是我们武术界责无旁贷的崇高使命。我在美国定居多年，看到美国武术家协会扛起了这面旗帜，第三届纽约国际武术锦标赛又如期圆满举行，深感欣慰，愿更多的各界人士团结在一起，助力武术早日进入奥运，加油！”

大赛总导演，曾成功执导广州亚运开闭幕式，深圳世界大运会开幕式的中国知名导演何金德先生说：“有幸参与及执导了三届纽约国际武术锦标赛，看到了海外武术家们对武术的一片初心，看到了热爱中国武术，热爱中华文化的海外华人对中国传统文化，特别是中华武术的不遗余力的推广。这次比赛不仅是一次展示武术魅力的机会，也是一次推动武术入奥的重要举措。”

最后，大赛组委会负责人，美国武术家协会执行会长蓝超海先生说：“本次比赛参赛者年龄跨度从5岁至70岁及以上，比赛增加了散打、摔跤和太极，其他常规比赛还有集体项目、传统北方拳术、传统南方拳术、咏春拳、对抗项目、形意和八卦。”
