根据联合国专家最近发布的报告，阿富汗妇女和女童的处境是“全球最糟糕的”。报告称，在塔利班事实当局的统治下，妇女和女童的人权受到系统性的限制，并遭受严重的歧视，这可能构成“性别隔离”和“性别迫害”。
联合国全球教育问题特使、英国前首相戈登·布朗（Gordon Brown）说：“国际社会必须聆听阿富汗女孩和年轻女性发自内心的强烈呼吁，动员更多的力量，以更坚定的决心谴责对她们权利的侵犯。”

“教育不能等待”基金主任谢里夫（Yasmine Sherif）说：“在世界处于实现2030年议程和可持续发展目标最后期限的中点之际，我们决不能忘记那些被落在最后面的人。很难想象还有谁比阿富汗女孩的处境更落后，她们仅仅因为性别原因就被剥夺了包括受教育权利在内的最基本的人权。”
谢里夫说：“我们坚定地致力于提高阿富汗女孩的话语权，继续坚定不移地倡导全面恢复阿富汗女孩受教育的权利。我们将继续与合作伙伴合作，通过我们支持的社区教育计划为阿富汗儿童提供重要的学习机会。”
自2017年以来，“教育不能等待”基金一直在支持阿富汗的教育计划。该基金支持的阿富汗多年复原力计划（MYRP）为该国最偏远和服务不足地区的25万多名儿童和青少年提供支持。该计划以社区为基础，在当地社区的支持下组织开展地方性教育活动，对保持教育的持续发展起到了至关重要的作用。女孩占该计划所惠及的所有儿童和青少年的一半以上。
