粮食署表示，援助规模正在扩大，以包括因地震而流离失所的土耳其家庭。
叙利亚饱受长达12年的内战蹂躏，西北边境大部分地区由反对派战斗人员控制，当地许多人多次流离失所，本就面临着人道主义危机。如今，该地区又遭受地震袭击，使得情况雪上加霜。
比斯利访问了位于土叙边境的联合国运输中心。在那里，一支由21辆卡车组成的车队已经装载了380吨食物和其他救援物资，将通过巴布哈瓦口岸前往叙利亚西北部非政府控制地区。
自边境口岸重新开放以来，粮食署已向叙西北部运送了180辆卡车的物资。
比斯利对这些重要补给路线的重新开放表示欢迎。他强调，还需要恢复和扩大叙利亚境内的跨线运送，并呼吁所有各方进一步为通道开放提供便利。
他说：“粮食援助必须从四面八方、通过各种途径、不受任何限制地送到叙利亚西北部的人民手中。”
土叙强震发生后，粮食署迅速动员起来，为两国230多万受灾民众提供了援助。
目前，粮食署在土耳其的应急响应措施需要筹集8000万美元资金，以迅速增加粮食和现金援助。粮食署还需要1.5亿美元来援助叙利亚的80万灾民。
此外，该机构还需要3亿美元来维持在叙利亚全境每月为550万人提供粮食援助的计划。粮食署表示，如果无法获得这笔资金，该机构将被迫在几个月内暂停对380万叙利亚人的援助。
